Ignoring the fact that's pretty worthless (why would i switch between two short-ranged weapons rather than a short-ranged and a long ranged?) it doesn't always work. What?Īdditionally, pressing the button to switch weapons is supposed to switch between weapons of the same weapon "class" on the wheel (ex: between the shotgun and double barrel). Except the tutorial tooltip is wrong and says ZL and ZR (the triggers) are what switches weapons. In SS, Y opens essentially a codex (why is this not on the d-pad?) and L and R are for both weapon wheel and switching weapons. You have a weapon wheel, and then Y usually switches between the last two weapons you used. Multi-weapon FPS games have been on consoles for a while, so there's some standard controls here. The Switch Controls are Mislabeled and Bad Why are you even letting me attempt to save? Also if you try and save and it's full, it just tosses up an error. This is just a bizarre choice, as I found myself switching between games and not remembering which save went to which game. it doesn't say which game which save is from. On top of that, I couldn't find a way to get the keyboard to pop up to rename saves, so it's hard to tell which goes to which game because. You have a limit of around 10 saves, and all three games share the same save pool. Other Random Garbage that feels like they cut corners The graphical glitches in the city areas are overwhelming with buildings and walls popping in and out of reality. Honestly, it's pretty damn bad, which is weird because graphically it looks like a mid Xbox 360 game, which the Switch should be more than capable of handling. It isn't as bad a port as other (Outer Worlds, Ark, etc.) but it's nowhere near Doom quality. This port has TONS of graphical bugs, from buildings disappearing, to the framerate tanking when you do certain executions (or use the sledgehammer), to massive resolution downscaling in certain larger areas and the framerate still tanks. I did notice graphical differences between the modes, unlike TFE.īFE can barely hold a stable framerate large chunks of the time in Quality, and kind of stays around 30 maybe 70-80% of the time in Performance. It dipped more than TFE, probably because it had more expansive vistas (especially early on), but in Performance it wasn't enough to hurt the game. TSE runs in 60 most of the time but less than TFE in Quality, and most of the time in Performance. I couldn't see any significant visual downgrades between the two modes. TFE runs in 60 most of the time in Quality, and probably all of the time (I couldn't tell) in Performance. I did switch between them now and again just to test it, and here's what I found: You can't set each game individually for some reason, so I spent most of the game in Performance mode because of the third game (BFE, more on that later). It's a completely OK port (especially if you like TFE and TSE), but there's some dumb decisions here that frustrated me that people should know.Įach the has two options: Performance and Quality. The only review I could find on the subreddit was this post: (which I watched before buying) and it was fairly positive, but I feel there's more about this port that should be mentioned in regards to it's quality.

After beating all three games over the past few days, I came away both disappointed and confused.

I'm a big fan of the first three SS game (First Encounter, Second Encounter, and 2) and am nuts for boomer shooters on the go, so I picked it up. As someone who didn't follow Switch news the past month or so, the SS collection popping up on my "Recently Released" eShop list was a great surprise.
